First impressions DO
count.
- Dress according to
the position you are applying for, usually a smart suit. Smarter rather than casual is
recommended.
- Handshake - there is
nothing worse than a weak, sweaty handshake. Be firm, and portray a confident image.
- Eye contact - direct
eye contact reflects a confident, honest candidate. A smile adds to your confidence.

- Ensure you know where
the interview is to be conducted and who you are meeting.
- Dont be late
(obvious...but people are still late!!)
- Take a copy of your
résumé, the job advert/description and any information you have found out about the
company - the internet is a great source of information.

Questions most
commonly asked at interview:
- 'Tell me
about yourself'
Beware - this is a dangerous question. It seems simple, but is so open-ended that you
could waffle. Prepare a short presentation of yourself for the interview which lasts no
more than 2 minutes, incorporating your professional life. Only include your personal life
if you feel it is relevant to the interview.

What has been your biggest challenge to date?
How would your boss/friends describe you?
What would be the ideal role for you?

Have at least 2-3 questions ready to ask (remember an interview is a two-way process and
it is important that the company is right for you too!).

What advantages do you have over your competition?
What training and development do you have in place?
What is your percentage share of the market?
